I’m sure there are other examples but in my mind there are two times we have monumentally failed to prosecute people who have nearly destroyed this union. First, after the civil war and second after Trump’s first term. Both have led us directly here.

I was excited about reading this but was sad not to see what I think is the most important part of an accountability message: a clear and direct pledge to prosecute Democrats as well. There is plenty in the post-cold war presidencies to object to and discourage. Prosecutions for Iraq, Gaza etc. Accountability after a close wave election faces the problem of legitimacy. Both parties have failed to produce accountability because political retribution is unpopular. That is why Dems would need to put high profile leaders in the zone of accountability.
