Introducing...the Fighting Fascism Podcast!
I'm super excited about this.
I thought about starting this post off with a joke (“Just what the world needs right now, another podcast”), but I’m actually really excited about this project, so I’m just going to be earnest. Today, three friends and I are launching a new podcast, sponsored by The Nation, to help you fight back against fascism.
You can listen to the first episode here:

We’re in a moment that demands not just outrage, but strategy. So this is a show that will look hard at past and present fascist movements, the conditions that enabled them, and—crucially—the resistance movements that defeated them.
Each week, my friends Matt DaSilva, Jonathan Smucker, and I (with the help of our producer, Nik Damants) will sit down with historians, strategists, and activists. We’ll be looking both forward and backward: For example, next week we’re talking with Morris Katz, the lead strategist for Zohran Mamdani’s campaign, on why the Democratic Party keeps fumbling and how to make it stop; after that we’ll interview Eric Rauchway, a leading expert on FDR—America’s original antifascist—on what Roosevelt’s New Deal coalition can teach us about winning.
Today’s episode features Astra Taylor, author of End Times Fascism, and Mark Bray, author of Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook, who joined us for a big picture conversation about what it means to fight fascism in this historical moment. We talked about popular resistance to ICE, tensions between “radical” and “normie” mobilization, how much we all hate AI, and why it shouldn’t actually be that hard to build a majoritarian coalition around the idea that a few dozen creepy billionaires shouldn’t own literally everything on the planet. I really think you’ll enjoy the conversation, and hope you’ll check it out!
And, if I can be so bold as to ask a personal favor: I’d be grateful if you could take five seconds to give the show a rating on your podcast app (Apple or Spotify). Truly, it would mean a lot to me, as this has a big effect on whether people will find the podcast on their feed.
Thanks a million! Oh, and here are a few short clips from today’s episode if you want to get a taste of the discussion:
Astra on Big Tech
Mark on antifascism and art
Me on billionaires
